Relationship with Reading Borough Council

The meeting welcomed Isabel Ballsden to speak on the above. Isabel (a Ward Counsellor) referred in a positive way to points made concerning street lights, trees, drains and a contribution by RBC to the DR road fund. Unfortunately, Isabel had to urgently leave the meeting soon after making her presentation.

Other Business:

The meeting was informed of ongoing meetings with Grosvenor Road Residents Association (GRA) and expressed support for these meetings to continue.

Ad-hoc stoppages by the GRA of people in vehicles, was briefly discussed. It was pointed out that demands to see passes for identification on the open road was not legal in the UK. However, to speed up progress it was pointed out that Laurie Fineman continues to hand out free windscreen stickers to Derby Road residents and their frequent visitors. He only needs to know the name of the person requesting the pass and the Registration number of the vehicle.

Gaining increased clarity on the benefits of contributing to the road-fund was mentioned and a suggestion made that the Committee consider using a new Community page of the website - that is being updated – along with a leaflet.

Laurie Fineman reported on visitor statistics to our community website that is separately funded by occasional contributions. It was suggested that advertising on the website should be explored as a way of raising ongoing funds. It was also suggested that any excess funds could be moved into the road fund from time to time.

Catherine Gaudy raised the idea of developing a community spirit along the road. Among the suggestions mentioned were summer BBQs and garden open days.

Serge Dussert closed the meeting.
