For many years, the Derby Road Fund Committee acted on an informal basis on behalf of residents, following customary unwritten practices. However, there was a general recognition that it would be beneficial to have a more formalised set of rules of procedure in place.
Over the years, several attempts were made to draft a constitution that would provide a concrete and mutually agreed set of rules and practices that would govern the actions of all future committees and ensure stability of practice over time.
In 2021, the newly elected Committee made it a priority to create a new Constitution and a Code of Conduct for members. Residents were consulted on draft versions of these, which were finalised and voted in at the 2021 AGM.
It is hoped that these documents will provide residents with a better understanding of the DRFA's responsibilities and rules of procedure, as well as greater transparency regarding the Committee's actions. They will also act as a blueprint and reference point for all future committees to follow, ensuring continuity of practice on the road regardless of changes in the committee membership and a smoother handover process.
